When looking for a consulting firm to help deploy SAP projects, customers want a partner that can do so at a reduced cost. Cost of ownership is and will always be a big factor for customers. Last year, itelligence consultant Atul Mehrotra posted some interesting thoughts and questions on the SAP blog on the topic of remote functional consulting. We wanted to revisit this idea a year later to see if anyone has experience working with consultants who have worked remotely in the U.S., and beyond, to deliver an SAP project to a customer?
An example would be when a lead functional consultant works on-site and offloads units of work to a consultant who works from a remote location. The remote consultant would likely come on-site then for a week to participate in business process discussions but then work remotely to configure and develop the business process in SAP. They would configure the business in SAP and develop functional specs for any development that are needed to support that business process. The remote consultant works with an offshore developer then to develop and test the object and after the business process has been configured in SAP, they would go back on-site to deliver the functionality to the client and help complete the user acceptance testing and sign off.
