Newcastle University’s HANA Journey, from PoC to Business Case, to Project, to Now

Newcastle University runs on SAP, from core processes such as Finance, HCM and SRM to Student Lifecycle Management and Business Warehouse based Analytics. With the university’s commitment to SAP and SAP’s commitment to HANA, it was quite clear that HANA was on the roadmap, the only question was when?

With SAP performance degrading and the infrastructure under it due for replacement, was now the time to implement HANA at Newcastle University? Mindful of the paradigm-shifting possibilities of SAP HANA, Newcastle delivered a Proof of Concept project to inform a successful business case for implementation.

In this video, Chris Burns and Alan Cecchini discuss their adventures along the way, showcase some early success, including some of the business processes they have reinvented, and their plans going forward as they approach go-live on their production HANA systems.

Newcastle University are now live on SAP Business Suite on HANA. The go-live happened on Monday 11th July, 2016 and Newcastle University are now experiencing fantastic results.

The SAP HANA journey for Newcastle has only just started, we are sure S/4 HANA is going to be part of Newcastle Universities roadmap in the near future.

Quote“The more we can squeeze out of our Proof of Concept system now, the better prepared we’ll be when we go live. We are aiming to go live with Phase 1 in July 2016”
Alan Cecchini, SAP Development Manager, Newcastle University
Quote“Without itelligence’s help, the Proof of Concept wouldn’t have been possible.”
Chris Burns, Business Systems Technical Manager, Newcastle University
