In February, SAP announced that it would extend support of its legacy ERP solutions from 2025 to 2027. It also guaranteed support of SAP S/4HANA through 2040. Here’s Everything you need to know about the change and how it could affect your strategy when moving to SAP S/4HANA.

What Exactly has Changed?

Two things. First, SAP announced that it would continue to maintain legacy ERP solutions until 2027. It had previously committed to support them through 2025.
Second, SAP committed maintenance and support of its new ERP solution, SAP S/4HANA, through 2040. Take a look at the full list of legacy ERP systems and further details from SAP.

Why is the New Deadline Important to me?

If you haven’t moved yet, it means that you have more time to create a roadmap that works best for you. In a previous blog article, I explained why it’s important not to procrastinate moving to SAP S/4HANA. Doing so could result in a bottleneck as many companies try to migrate at the same time. A lack of qualified professionals might drive up the price of migration or make it more difficult to fit into your schedule. The deadline may have been extended, but the above still holds true. In order to move to SAP S/4HANA in a way that best fits your schedule and budget, it’s important to begin the process sooner rather than later.

SAP has extended its support of legacy ERP solutions. We still recommend moving to SAP S/4HANA sooner than later.

Why does SAP’s Commitment to SAP S/4HANA through 2040 matter?

It means you’ll rest easy knowing you’re covered at least the next 20 years. And that firm foundation allows for a long-term outlook. It also means there’s more time for follow-up projects, which means you can make the most of the software without incurring further costs for use.

Could SAP Change its Deadline Again?

It’s not impossible. For years, there has been speculation that the 2025 deadline would be extended, and it eventually was. But there’s certainly no guarantee. For the most flexibility when moving to SAP S/4HANA, getting started now remains the best approach, whatever the deadline – here are the reasons.
