This is the first in a four-part itelligence blog series exploring SAP S/4HANA. In Part One, we will examine why today’s businesses need S/4HANA and its top benefits.
With the rollout of SAP S/4HANA, SAP has made a potentially game-changing decision, reinventing its business suite to meet the changing needs of today’s businesses. While this may seem like a radical move for the IT giant, the newest generation of enterprise software is built to meet customer demands today and down the road. In this blog series we will take a closer look at S/4HANA and examine some of the biggest changes and the advantages they bring. To start, we’ll review the business needs that make it a necessity.
Built for the Digital Age
SAP previously updated its software suite incrementally, building and improving upon existing technology to meet customer needs. While annual updates and piecemeal changes are still common, today’s businesses are evolving faster than ever before, and the playing field has shifted. New innovations such as the Internet of Things, sensor technology and big data offer companies fresh avenues for growth, and in turn they demand tools that can keep up. Simply put, the incremental approach to upgrades no longer delivers enough impact fast enough.
This is why SAP has taken a bold leap, and built a state-of-the-art business suite designed for today’s business environment. SAP S/4HANA brings users new and streamlined functionalities, an intuitive UI, and highly granular representation of data, all boosting enterprise efficiency and productivity. Applications based on in-memory database technology enable real-time analysis, simulation, and decision making, even in big data environments, changing the way businesses operate and unleashing an unprecedented flow of information. As businesses move to capitalize on the digital transformation, they’ll be well-equipped and ready for the challenge.
A Quiet Revolution
Working with SAP users each and every day, we have observed the transition to HANA from its very start and have experienced the process from start to finish with our customers. SAP has taken a smart approach with the progression of SAP S/4HANA releases, beginning with SAP S/4HANA Finance and then the logistics solution Enterprise Management. Here, SAP has proven its unparalleled understanding of processes and has enjoyed ongoing success.
Starting with a less complex module has allowed SAP and itelligence to gain valuable experience working with the new software one stage at a time. Thanks to this, we can now make the transition to HANA much less disruptive for everyone – so the revolution will be a quiet one.
This process began with a learning curve, as our first SAP S/4HANA project implementations at times proved difficult and complex. However, our close, long-standing partnership with SAP helped us to quickly iron out the issues and discover the keys to success. While reinventing a whole business suite is a daring strategy, SAP has made the right move at the right time.
SAP S/4HANA truly reshapes enterprise IT, eliminating the technical limitations of previous products and enabling the next generation of business. In the following parts of this series, we’ll explore how SAP S/4HANA achieves this and what the next iteration of technology means for the end user.
In Part Two, we will look at S/4HANA’s new user experience, SAP Fiori.
